The Redside Foundation Announces New Executive Director
Boise, ID (15 November 2016) – The Redside Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the health and strength of the Idaho guiding community, has announced the selection of Emerald LaFortune as its new Executive Director. LaFortune, previously the foundation’s Media Coordinator, was chosen by the Board of Directors for her background in guiding, education in non-profit management, and dedication to the Idaho guiding/outfitting community.
Redside Foundation Board of Directors President Brian Chaffin had this to say of LaFortune: “We are so pleased to have Emerald on board. Her experience both as a guide and in organizational marketing and development fills a need for us at a critical time. We have created a platform of services and support for the Idaho guiding community, and with Emerald’s help, we hope to reach out to more guides and industry supporters across the state and beyond.”
LaFortune, Idaho born and raised, has spent six seasons as a river guide first for Riggins-based Salmon River Experience then for Lewiston-based OARS Dories. LaFortune received a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Non-Profit Administration from the University of Montana in 2013. She has since worked for Missoula-based nonprofit the Wild Rockies Field Institute and as a freelance writer. Her work has been widely published on outdoor adventure platforms including OARS, NRS, The Dun, and Misadventures Magazine.
The Redside Foundation offers services that many guides need. “Often, guests on river, hunting, skiing, and fishing adventures only see their guides as this gregarious, always positive, always strong person,” LaFortune explains. “Redside understands that Idaho’s guides are some of the most incredible people in the world, but that they also have a unique set of career challenges and health concerns.”
